Villarroya del Campo

This town sits at the foot of a small relief at the confluence of streams Villarroya Orcajo and at the foot of a small reñieve called the Castle where there are remains of stone blocks of the first settlement. And is that the first settlers were the Celts who, around the V century BC, a town placed on the top and flat relief, as they did in many other places in the Field of Romans and the region Jiloca. This would be a set of small mud buildings surrounded by a defensive wall made of large stones roughly worked. To isolate the settlement and increase the defensive nature of the relief the Celts dug a large pit in the rock.

It extends into the plain in the shadow of a hill on which stands the chapel of St. Bartholomew s. XII, which was built in the same era aproximadamentand that the foundation of the town. This is a simple mud and brick building, which include a powerful stone buttresses. Inside the chapel was a valuable XV century Gothic altarpiece, which was recently moved to the church of the Virgin of the Rosary.

The church, Baroque, is dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario and stored inside one of the largest Gothic altarpieces of the region. Presents 3 blocks and 31 tables, originally belonging to three different altarpieces, two dating from the fifteenth century and one in the XVI. It is believed that at least one of the authors could be the master of Grañén Blasco.
A popular architecture level, there is a laundry room next to the church, dedicated to the Virgin Peirón Pillar at the entrance of the village, the old forge or wood stove, all newly restored.
Also known goodness Villarroya waters Field. The term embraces the fountains in the square, the botear Salz and, in the latter, there is a picnic and a good shade to admire the scenery and enjoy the tranquility.
On the banks of the stream Villarroya, where urban section, is the newly established municipal park with sports court, playground, petanque and traditional games and paved walking areas.
